🛠 What Is the Helix?

The Helix is a planetary gear-driven overdrive unit that increases the rotational speed of your HPFP. Much like gearboxes found in automatic transmissions, the Helix uses sun, planet, and ring gears to spin the pump faster—resulting in higher fuel volume and pressure to keep up with aggressive tuning demands.

💡 Why You Need It

As you push your N54 or early N55 engine beyond stock power levels, the stock HPFP runs out of displacement, causing rail pressure drops under load. Spinning the pump faster increases the number of delivery strokes per cycle. That’s exactly what the Helix does—boosts fuel delivery capacity without the complexity of an additional fueling system.

Through extensive testing and failure analysis, Spool has determined that overdriving the HPFP does not accelerate wear or contribute to common failure modes. Most HPFP failures are related to:

• Solenoid actuation coil issues

• Bypass valve degradation (exacerbated by E85 exposure)
